Prospective consignors will submit their horse(s) for review through our website or email. Horses will be approved by our team of experts based on their quality, condition, breeding and training.
Our buyers depend on YOUR photos, videos and information to buy with confidence. The time, effort and professionalism you use in this process will directly impact the price horse your horse brings. Your job is to present your horse at its best and get the attention that creates EXCITEMENT about your horse!
Professional Photographs
Horses will need high-quality, professional photographs taken by an equine photographer. You can click HERE to view our complimentary listing of photographers to help find one in your area. We require, at minimum, a side “profile” shot and front/back end shot to show conformation (Example photos here). If you have a professional photo that is not current, we are happy to use it. HOWEVER, we MUST have a recent photo (within 30 days of sale time) to put on the listing. Your description should read “The profile photo was taken in May 2022. Please see current photograph also in the listing.”
1. MANE SIDE PROFILE
2. OFF-MANE SIDE PROFILE
3. FRONT VIEW
– Conformation of the front legs is easily viewed from straight on.
4. HIND VIEW
– Conformation and legs are easily viewed up close. Tail does not obscure legs.
NOTE: We require the catalog images to be taken by a professional equine photographer to ensure we provide our buyers with an accurate and high quality representation of the horses consigned. If you are needing a recommendation for a photographer, visit our photographers tab or give us a call.
Videos
Platinum Horse Sales requires videos for every horse. For riding horses, this is your time to show case their best qualities and capabilities. For yearlings, broodmares or babies, a video of them moving in a round pen or walking on a lead is acceptable. Remember, we want buyers to feel comfortable when making a big decision. A more in-depth video will allow our buyers to bid with confidence. We recommend showing the buyer what they would see if they came to your place to view the horse—from catching the horse in a pen or pasture, to standing for saddling, to riding. Incomplete information leaves a buyer with questions, resulting in a lower price for your horse.
You don’t need an expensive camera or editing software to make quality sale videos. You can use an iPhone and iMovie to create just what you need! We recommend using the best clips first. Most buyers only watch the first 7 seconds of a video before deciding it’s time to move to the next horse. They don’t need to see the photo of the horse, their name, etc. They need to see something exciting that makes them want to continue watching.
Footnotes & Important Information
We require consignors to write footnotes for every horse. This should give a brief history of your horse and focus on the qualities that make them stand out. You can touch on their pedigree, their training and any achievements they have.
This is also the time to point out any vices, conformational defects, blemishes or soundness issues that would be important for a buyer to know. This is VERY important. This should include any physical or medical conditions – from scars, warts, spots in their eyes, slight overbites, club feet, altered tails and any anything in between. Buyers are typically okay with many of these defects or blemishes if they know about them beforehand, but no one wants to find out about this when they see the horse for the first time. You are solely responsible for clarifying any of these defects/blemishes.
Every owner is required to have the accurate height of the horse at the wither. You MUST use a measuring stick for this. Selling a horse with an incorrect height is misrepresentation, and you may be required to accept the return of the horse. This is a very important attribute for our buyers. Providing the accurate height is imperative.
Each horse must have a veterinary exam completed by a licensed veterinarian and a Coggins current within 6 months of sale day. This form must be returned to the office by Thursdays at 5 p.m. before the sale. We highly recommend all performance horses and prospects have a set of radiographs done by sale day. You can find the vet form and suggested views here.
We have invested heavily in advertising, and we will do the bulk of that work for you! The better content we receive, the better job we can do in pushing your horse. This is where HIGH-quality photos and videos come in to play. We use multiple different avenues to advertise before sale day. However, we do recommend you also take the time to share your sale horse to your friends and groups on social media.
If you have a reserve, you need to email it to the office at [email protected] by Thursday at 5 p.m. before sale day. Expect to receive calls and inquiries on your horse. You may have potential buyers that want to come to see your horse, schedule additional pre-purchase veterinary exams or ride your horse.
Platinum Horse Sales will take care of everything within the auction on sale day. We will help potential bidders register if needed, answer any questions about the platform and guide bidders through the process.
Platinum Horse Sales will handle all payment and breed-registry transfer paperwork post-auction. When the Platinum Horse Sales office receives and clears payment, we will notify the consignor that their horse may be released.
The winning bidder has seven days to pick up their horse. You MUST have a Coggins for any horse selling. The buyer is financially responsible for the health certificate, but you will need to help them with this, if needed. You may charge them board after the seven-day window. Any post-sale care or arrangements are solely between you and the buyer. Buyers will be responsible for lining up transport for their horse.
Platinum Horse Sales will send payment within 10 business days of auction closing, unless there has been a delay in payment clearing. All checks are mailed with a tracking number that is emailed to you upon departure.
